After traveling to Wichita, KS, to take on Wichita St. and Creighton in a double header, the Missouri women’s tennis came home 1-1, beating the Bluejays 5-0, but losing to the Shockers from Kansas 1-6.

The team was highlighted by junior Kelli Hine, who recorded the lone win for the Tigers against Wichita St. (6-2, 7-6) in her one-seed singles match, as well as picking up a victory against Creighton (6-2, 6-2) to go 2-0 in her singles matches on the afternoon.

The Tigers started the day rough, taking on Wichita St. first, and apart from the victory at the one-seed, the Tigers only managed to win one other set on the morning, with four of the six singles matches ending in straight sets.

The doubles teams didn’t fair much better, as the top two Tiger teams, Alex Clark and Madison Rhyner, as well as Cassidy Spearman and Brittany Lashaway, both lost 6-2. T

After taking a beating in their morning match against the 43rd ranked Shockers, the Tigers bounced back for the afternoon showing, sweeping the Bluejays across the board.

On top of Hine’s win, the two-seed Clark recorded a victory over Creighton’s Darby Rosette (6-2, 6-0), three-seed Beatriz Machado-Santos defeated Natalie Miller (6-2, 6-1), and four-seed Brianna Lashaway beat Karlin Naslund (6-2, 6-2) to wrap up singles play.

In the only doubles match, the Tiger duo of Spearman and Brittany Lashaway recorded a victory against Creighton’s Liz Vermillion and Sam Anderson to complete the sweep.

The Tigers return home on Feb. 7 where they will play a double header against IUPUI in the morning then Missouri St. in the afternoon.
