Tennis Squad Shuts out Arkansas-Fort Smith

Saturday, Feb. 4 –

On the morning of a busy day in Missouri athletics, the No. 72 women’s tennis team hosted its home opener on Saturday against Arkansas-Fort Smith. The Tigers opened up in style, shutting out the Lady Lions 7-0.

The sweep gives Mizzou its second win in a row and improves their overall record to 2-2 on the young season.

Missouri only lost three games in three doubles matches to secure a quick first point. The singles matches did not prove any more difficult for the solid Tiger team.

Ashleigh Chiaf knotted the lone 6-0, 6-0 triumph at No. 6 singles. Nina Pantic, Rachel Stuhlmann and Jamie Mera only lost one game a piece on their way to victory. The closest match of the day was a 6-2, 6-2 win for No. 4 singles player Alex Clark.

After the dominating performance, Missouri hits the road again, seeking competitive matches. Their next match is this Saturday, Feb. 11 at Wichita St.

The next home match is slated for the Feb. 17 vs. Illinois St.
