Columbia, Missouri is known for its killer downtown scene filled with delicious restaurants and chic clothing stores. For today’s purposes, however, we’re going to focus on the sweeter things in life- the top five desserts one can indulge in when meandering around CoMo.

  1. Best cupcake – S’mores cupcake from Velvet Cupcake Cafe

Velvet Cupcake Cafe is right inside Tiger Hotel and is a must-visit when your parents come to town. Their cupcakes are innovative with funky little designs to match their tastes- my personal favorite being the s’mores one with a giant marshmallow on top. Have no fear if chocolate isn’t for you and you like things more on the sour side though because the key lime cupcake is a fan favorite that’s sure to tantalize your taste buds.

  1. Best cookie- Chocolate chip cookie from Hot Box Cookies

You just can’t beat a classic. A warm chocolate chip cookie right after that stats midterm you didn’t prepare for will sedate all your inner demons. The cool thing about Hot Box Cookies is their half-price day olds. The day-old cookies taste just as good as the fresh ones- even better when you factor in their discount- and are kept warm just for broke college kids like me.

  1. Best scoop of ice cream- any flavor from Sparky’s Homemade Ice Cream

Just like mama used to make, assuming your mama was an ice cream connoisseur, in which case you should invite me over sometime. Sparky’s makes all its ice cream in-house, and you can literally taste the freshness. One time I got honey lavender-flavored ice cream, and it cured my acne. It was truly magnificent.

  1. Best cheesecake- U Knead Sweets

This place is perfect for those of you who like cheesecake, especially late night cheesecake snackers. I’m hoping some of you beautiful readers stop by to try a slice in the near future.

  1. Best flan- La Siesta

My ladies and I always head over to La Siesta for some flan. We love it. It makes us feel like we’re the queens of Spain. It’s the perfect in-between for people who don’t really like pudding but aren’t huge fans of cake either. I like to compliment my flan with a 100 percent virgin mango margarita and another flan.
