Not so standard ankle boots

It’s no surprise that ankle boots have been one of fall’s hottest trends for years. Ankle boots are versatile enough to wear from day into night and can dress up or down any outfit. This year, the trend is getting an update with different prints, textures and colors just in time for fall. Go bold with a snakeskin print or try on-trend white, red or metallic silver. Satin, velvet and patent leather can also give an interesting texture. Pair your favorite boots with skinny jeans and an oversized sweater or a mini skirt and furry jacket for a night out look.

Everyone has a stockpile of jeans in their closet that they just can’t get rid of. Jeans, whether they are skinny, flared, boyfriend or “mom-style”, are a classic staple. This fall, jeans will have more added details than usual. Hems are becoming more deconstructed, and patches, embroidery and lacing can amplify any pair of jeans. Pick a cropped style to show off impressive shoes or an extra flattering high-rise pair with a T-shirt for a great on-campus look.

With the never-ending arrivals from brands like Lululemon and Adidas, the “athleisure” trend, or a mix of athletic and leisure clothes, is not going anywhere in the fall. Most college kids can agree they would rather throw on a pair of leggings and a tee for class. With the athleisure trend, you can be trendy and comfy with leggings in different colors, mesh details and cut-offs. Leggings look amazing with classic sneakers like Stan Smith’s or with more sporty shoes like Nike Roshes. Throw on your favorite tee or tank and a bomber jacket for a look that can take you from the gym to class with no fuss.

Bold prints

Eye-catching prints are having a major fashion moment right now. You can typically find tops and pants in all colors during the year, but for fall, there are plenty of fun prints to choose from, including florals, camo, leopard, stripes and polka dots. Florals may seem out of season, but in darker hues, the pattern can be perfect for a blouse or dress. Camo would be a perfect print for a pair of leggings or a tee, while leopard print is usually neutral for accessories.

Sweaters with details

When the weather gets colder, sweaters and cardigans come out in full force. Instead of turning to basic and plain sweaters, add more details. Knits with cutouts, lacing, exaggerated sleeves or distressing can really add some variety to a simple outfit. An oversized silhouette or a different neckline, like a turtleneck, can also turn a boring sweater interesting. A pretty sweater, jeans and ankle boots or a mini skirt and tights are easy, foolproof fall outfits.
