The Missouri Soccer Team (5-9-2, 2-5-1) dropped another nail-bitter Thursday night, 1-0 against the No. 8 ranked South Carolina Gamecocks (12-2-1, 6-1-1), which now extends their losing streak to three games. The loss drops the Tigers to 12th in the SEC, and with only two games left the Tigers chances of making the Conference Tournament look slim.

Missouri started off slow as South Carolina scored their first and only goal of the game in the 20th minute. But with the Tigers having eight total shots and four shots on goal they had their chances to tie the game up but were unable to. The closest Mizzou was able to get to scoring a goal was in the 87th and 88th minute of the game, when sophomore Bella Alessi’s shot to the upper corner almost put the Tigers on the board but South Carolina’s goalkeeper was just able to block the shot. The Tigers then got another shot on goal from junior forward Sarah Luebbert, but it hit the post. These missed opportunities from the Tigers resulted in the heart breaking 1-0 loss.

This game was very evenly played as the Tigers and Gamecocks both had four shots on goal. The Tigers were able to get more shots off then the Gamecocks but the struggling offense was unable to capitalize. This loss now makes it the 9th game that the Tigers have been shut out on the season. The Tigers struggle in close games as they have a 3-8 record in games that are decided my one goal.

The Tigers have an opportunity to put their heartbreaking loss in the past as the Florida Gators come to Columbia on Sunday. The game will be held at Walton Stadium and game time is at noon.
