Tiger Tennis Get Out on Right Foot in Ithaca

The Missouri Tigers tennis team traveled to Ithaca, New York on Friday evening to take on Cornell at the Reis Tennis Center. There the Tigers were able to pick up their third straight win of the season with a solid 4-2 win over Cornell.

The Tigers started the match off strong in doubles as sophmore Mackenzy Middlebrooks and freshman Ellie Wright  defeated Ananya Dua and Michelle Wang 6-2 at the No. 3 doubles to record their fourth total win of the season.

Cornell was able to gain some ground on Mizzou when Madison Stevens and Cheyenne Lilenthal beat Amina Ismail and Taylor Gruber 5-4, but Mizzou was able to secure the doubles points when sophomore Serena Nash and Senior Clare Raley dominated Priyanka Shah and Mariko Linuma to grab a 6-3 victory.

In the singles competition, Mizzou battled to a close victory over Cornell. Freshman Taylor Gruber bested Michelle Wang at the No. 6 position to give her two straight dual wins. Ellie Wright was also able to dominate Ananya Dua 6-2, 6-2 to win her 3rd straight singles win of the year at No. 3, while Mackenzy Middlebrooks beat Madison Stevens 6-4, 6-4 to win the No. 4 spot.

Serena Nash also was able to record a singles win after battling with Mariko Linuma 6-2, 2-6, 3-2.

The Tigers will follow the match up with a day off from any formal competitions, but will remain in Ithaca  as they prepare for a pair of matches. They will be back in action on Sunday to battle against Army West Point and then at noon they will face Binghampton.
