The Missouri Tigers tennis team began conference play on the road at the Hilary J. Currey Tennis Center as they had a highly anticipated match against the No. 6 ranked Vanderbilt Commodores (6-3, 1-0) tennis team. The 10-2 Tigers did not live up to expectations as they fell 7-0 to Vanderbilt. This loss dropped the Tigers to 10-2 overall and 0-1 in SEC play.

In the singles match the Vanderbilt Commodores received wins from No. 1 junior Fernanda Contreras, who took down the nation’s third ranked singles player in Fernanda Contreras. Vanderbilt’s Georgia Drummy battled off Tigers junior Serena Nash, 6-3 and 6-2. Tigers freshman Vivien Abraham dropped her match against Summer Dvorak, 6-2 and 6-1. In the fourth singles match Missouri sophomore Ellie Wright was defeated by Carolyn Campana 6-2 and 6-3. Only Sophomore Taylor Gruber and freshman Lisa Fukutoku were able to push their matches to a third set, but both ended up falling to their opponents.

In the doubles matches, the Vanderbilt Commodores picked up victories when Dvorak and Meyer defeated the Tigers sophomore Marta Oliveira and Lisa Fukutoku. The Vanderbilt Commodores picked up another doubles victory when Georgia Drummy and Emma Kurtz knocked off Serena Nash and Gabrielle Goldin of the Tigers.

The Tigers now will travel to Lexington, Kentucky to battle the No. 25 Kentucky Wildcats on March 3rd.
