Tiger Tennis Trumps Stephen F. Austin

Saturday, Feb. 23-

The Mizzou women’s tennis team shutout Stephen F. Austin State University this past Saturday. This was fourth win in a row for the No. 55 Tigers. Mizzou grabbed a 7-0 win at the Green Tennis Center in Columbia.

The Tigers won all three double matches, taking the early 1-0 lead. Senior Maria Christensen and junior Rachel Stuhlmann started it off by dominating their opponents, Katheryna Bugayenko and Julia Lorca 8-1.

Following that was another dynamic duo of junior and No. 82 Cierra Gaytan-Leach and sophomore Elisha Gabb. The two beat Melena Gordo and Valeria Terentyeva 8-4.

Gabb came back out for a singles win over Margot de Haan, putting Missouri up 2-0. Adding another point to the scoreboard was Stuhlmann as she won 6-4, 6-2 against Lorca.

Christensen finished the victory with a 6-2, 6-2 defeat over Bugayenko at No. 4 singles.

Gaytan-Leach battled sophomore Malena Gordo to three sets before prevailing at No. 1 singles. The two fought hard and it was the closest match of the day, but Gordo came up short.

At No. 5 singles, sophomore Alex Clark posted a 6-2, 6-3 win over Terentyeva.

Freshman Madison Rhyner finished the day with a 6-2,6-2 defeat of Lauren Servise at No. 6 singles.

Now 6-1, the Tigers come back home to face No. 4 Florida at 5 p.m. Friday.
