As the 2017 Utah Classic rages on, the Missouri volleyball team failed to build off the win in the opener, and dropped their second match against No. 15 San Diego. In the opening set Mizzou took had the lead against a strong San Diego team with a score of 23-20 and looked like they could finish them off, but San Diego claimed the next five points in quick succession to secure the opening frame. This early comeback led for a shift in momentum that impacted the rest of the game as the Tigers began to falter even after a strong performance in the 1st set. The 2nd set led to another San Diego win with a score of 25-17, and then San Diego completed their 3-0 sweep of Mizzou with a score of 25-16.

The Tigers were out blocked in the game, blocking five while San Diego was able to block 12. Mizzou did have 17 more attempts than San Diego, but these were offset as their offense was plagued with 24 errors, which was a stark comparison to San Diego’s 12 errors.

Mb Alyssa Munlyn led Mizzou with an impressive 11 kills on .421 Saturday. On top of this she had three blocks and led the team with 12.5 points.

OH Kira Larson also had an impressive performance with nine digs to help solidify Mizzou’s defence.
