Tiger Volleyball puts down the Hammer on Georgia

Justin Lohmeyer, 23 Sports

Earlier this season, the Georgia Bulldogs had the Tigers number, and dominated Mizzou when the two went head to head. Luckily for the Tigers, things were different this time, as Coach Kreklow was not going to let this happen this time round.  The opening set was a tightly contested one. However, Mizzou fought through and went on to win the game of tug-of-war, due in large part to a 11-7 run to finish the set. Throughout the season, a lot of the Tigers success has been attributed to the fact that Kira Larson has been a kill machine. In this game Freshman Leketor Member-Meneh showed Kira Larson shes not the only one who can get a kill as she tallied 13 kills in the game and 5 in the first set alone. Mizzou produced 12 kills in the first set from five different Tigers.

The Tigers did not look as strong in the second set, but Kira Larson was able to reach a milestone. She recorded her 1,000 career point combined between two schools Nebraska (2014) and Missouri (2015-present). Mizzou was able to all but shut down Georgia in the third set. They had a combined 15 kills and Dariana Hollingsworth had six of them. Through those three sets they had 11 total blocks. The Tigers kept it quick and efficient with a total of 10 kills and 6 blocks. Those 17 blocks are an SEC single game best this year. The Tigers were triumphant in this match, by a score of 3-1 (25-21, 17-25, 25-16, 25-16).

The Tigers return home for a pair of matches this weekend. First is Friday November 3rd at 6:30pm against Texas A&M and the second is on Sunday November 5th at 1pm against LSU. All matches at the Hearnes Center.
