The Mizzou Women’s basketball team traveled to Lexington this Sunday to take on the Kentucky Wildcats on their home court. The Tigers had a good chance to win coming back from a 13 point deficit, but it was not enough to stop the Wildcats from closing out the game 61-55.

The start of the first quarter was back and forth keeping the game tied up until the end of the quarter where the Wildcats ran back to their bench with the 11-8 lead. Kentucky then extended their lead to five within the opening minutes of the second quarter.

Mizzou came back fighting, cutting the lead to one but scores from the Wildcats’ Olivia Ownes and Rhyne Howard gave the Wildcats the 28-18 lead heading into halftime.

Opening the third quarter the Wildcats answered first, but the Tigers would go on to make the next six baskets and go on a run outscoring the Wildcats 10-3 making the score 42-39 at the end of the third quarter.

The Tigers were able to cut it to one in the opening minutes of the fourth but the Wildcats then went on a 6-1 run putting them up 48-42 with less than ten to play.

Tigers Hayley Frank came ready to fight back scoring 5 in a row of eight Tiger scores putting the Tigers only two behind.

With 1:43 left to play, Tigers’ LaDazhia Williams missed two free throws, but Howard was able to come up with a basket and so was Willams. The Wildcats led 56-53 with 1:07 to go.

The Wildcats would go on to win the game 61-55. Mizzou plays next against Arkansas this Thursday night at Mizzou Arena at 7 p.m.
