Saturday, March 26–

The No. 15 Missouri softball team defeated the No. 6 Alabama Crimson Tide 7-3 in game one of a double-header Saturday.

Sami Fagan put the Tigers on the board first with an RBI double to center field. Later in the first inning, Amanda Sanchez singled up the middle to bring Fagan home, bringing Mizzou up 2-0.

A base hit by Natalie Fleming in the third brought in two more scores for Missouri, and later she would cross home plate on a throwing error. Alabama answered with one run of their own in the third.

In the fourth inning, the Tide cut into the lead even more. With two runners on base, Andrea Hawkins singled up the middle, bringing Leona Lafaele home for the run. Two batters later with the bases loaded, Mizzou gave up a walk to Haylie McCleney, allowing Alabama to close the gap even more. After the fourth, the Tigers were still up 5-3.

A strong fifth inning allowed Missouri to pull away. Amanda Sanchez and Natalie Fleming each had a solo home run to bring the lead to 7-3.

Paige Lowary finished the job by pitching three straight scoreless frames to secure the win. She improved to 13-2 for the season, bringing the Tigers’ win streak to nine.

Following the double-header, Mizzou will wrap up the series against Alabama in Tuscaloosa on March 28. First pitch is scheduled for 6:00 p.m.
