The Mizzou Men and Women’s Track Teams opened their indoor season by hosting the Missouri Holiday Opener. The first meet of the season is an exciting time for a team to see what the team has in the sprints and field events, and how in shape the distance runners are after a short break following the cross-country season.

Only a few teams attended the meet, most being considerably smaller than Mizzou. With this in mind, Mizzou dominated most events including 16 first place finishes. Freshman Mara Häusler impressed in her debut, setting the second-best triple jump mark in program history with 12.87m.

In addition to Häusler’s mark in the Mizzou all-time list, two more Tigers posted top-ten performances. Junior Nylo Clarke posted the fourth-best performance of all-time for Mizzou indoor track in the 60m Dash posting a time of 6.75 seconds. Junior Sydney Oberdiek hit tenth place, in the Mizzou record books, in the Weight Throw with a mark of 18.73m. This mark was good for second place.

Meet records were set by five Tigers. Most notably, redshirt senior Jordan McClendon won the weight throw and set the new meet record at 21.36m. Additionally, sophomore Mitch Weber set a meet record in the shotput in his Mizzou debut.

The Tigers will not see action until the end of winter break when they host the Missouri Intercollegiate, on January 17th. This meet will be a great indicator of the work the track team puts in over the break, a time which is extremely critical in setting up for a successful season.
