The Missouri Tigers (5-8-2, 2-4-1) suffered a 1-0 loss to the Tigers of Auburn University (11-3-1, 3-3-1) Sunday afternoon at Walton Stadium. Missouri’s Tigers now drop to two games under .500 in SEC play and 11th place in the SEC while Auburn improves to .500 in conference play and now rank 6th in the SEC.

The Tigers played well in a hard fought, grind it out game. Although Auburn came in as the stronger team on paper, it was a very even battle as both teams had a total of 13 shots and four shots on goal. Auburn had a total of four corner kicks to Mizzou’s two and were called offside three times compared to Missouri’s one offside penalty.

Neither team could grab the lead or even get a score on the board in the first half. Both teams had five shots in the first. But in the 70th minute Auburn’s Freshman midfielder Hailey Whitaker scored her 2nd goal of the season. Missouri had their chances to tie the game. Redshirt Junior Madison Lewis’ shot on goal in the 85th minute might have been their best opportunity. But Lewis’ shot hit the crossbar and was unable to find its way into the goal. Missouri had one more corner kick in the 89th minute, but they weren’t able to connect on that one either.

The Tigers will now travel to Columbia, South Carolina to take on the University of South Carolina Thursday at 5:30 CT in Stone Stadium. The Gamecocks are 11-2-1 on the year and 5-1-1 in conference, good for second in the SEC.
