In their final non-conference matchup on the season, the Mizzou tennis team defeated Texas A&M Corpus Christi 4-3.   Victories from sophomore Cassidy Spearman and junior Kelli Hines in the singles proved to be key in the Tigers road win on Saturday.

The competition kicked off with doubles matchups, with Mizzou winning two out of the three matches to secure the point for the team. Junior Madison Rhyner and Hine took the victory at the No.2 spot, while sophomores Brittany Lashway and Beatriz Machado Santos defeated their opponents 8-6 at No.3 to secure the team point.

Lashway also had a great performance individually, earning a (6-2, 6-2) victory at No. 6 singles action. With her wins over the weekend at Texas, Lashway has a three match singles winning streak.

In the early stages it appeared that Mizzou was on course to an easy win as they pulled ahead 3-1. It was far from over though, and Texas A&M Corpus Christi fought back and tied the matchup.

Victory for the Tigers came from the No. 2 singles matchup, where Spearman came out on top in a close three set match. With the singles victory, Sperman’s record stands at 9-1, while Hine’s win at No.1 improves her record at 8-4 in the spring.

The Tigers (8-4) will begin SEC action on Sunday, March 1 at Arkansas. Matchups between the Razorbacks and Mizzou are set for a noon start.
