Turnover in Final Seconds Hands Tigers Loss

The Missouri Tigers hosted the Florida Gators on Saturday at Mizzou Arena for MU’s second SEC game of the season. The Tigers came into the game sitting at 11-3 and 1-0 in conference play. MU had also won six of their last seven games headed into their match against the Gators.

This game would be a heartbreaker for Tigers fans and players alike. With seventeen seconds left the game was all tied up at seventy-five and Mizzou had possession. Guard Jordan Geist had the ball outside of the three-point line on the left side. He attempted to pass the ball to Kassius Robertson, who was heading toward the top of the key, when a Florida player anticipated the pass and stole it. He went up for an uncontested layup to give the Gators a 77-75 lead with 0.1 seconds left. This final blow would hand the Tigers their fourth loss of the season.

For the Gators, Jalen Hudson led the team in scoring with sixteen points. Egor Koulechov finished with fifteen, and Keith Stone and Chris Chiozza both totaled thirteen points on the night.

For Mizzou, Jordan Barnett played thirty-nine minutes on the night. He led all scorers with twenty-eight points as he cashed in six three pointers. Kassius Robertson was the second leading scorer for Mizzou as he finished with twelve.

Mizzou moved to 11-4 on the season with the loss with the Gators moved to 11-4 with the win. The Tigers now sit at 1-1 in SEC play. The Tigers will move on to play Georgia on Wednesday.
