Two Tigers Bring Home Hardware From Husker Invitational

Two sophomores brought home medals as the Tiger track team finished up competition in the Husker Invitational. Kearsten Peoples took second and Mitch Hatten took third in their respective events on Saturday.

After finishing third in weight throw on day one, Peoples came back on the second day and took second place in women’s shot put with a personal best 16.16-meter (53-00.25) throw. Her teammate Jill Rushin performed highly in shot put as well, finishing sixth.

Hatten was looking to beat his personal record for the third time this season in the high jump. He managed to notch a 2.05 meters (6-08.75) jump to top his previous high of 2.02 (6-07.5). He earned a third place finish for his efforts. Although Hatten and Peoples were the only two to earn medals, other Tigers beat their personal records.

Senior Heather Green set a new indoor personal record with a 3.87 meter (12-08.25). This overtook her previous mark by over two inches. She finished tenth in the event.

In the 800-meter run, sophomore Jasmine Webb took second in her heat and sixth overall behind a run of 2:16.14. She beat her previous best by less than a second. Junior Landon Wachter finished just ahead of Webb with a time of 2:16.08 in her first 800-meter race of the new season.

The team will be going their separate ways for next week’s events. The short-distance runners will be flying to Seattle, Wash., to compete in the Husky Invitational. The rest of the team will be traveling to Fayetteville, Ark., for the Tyson Invitational.
