In honor of Veteran’s day, the annual wreath laying ceremony occurred under the Memorial Union archway on Tuesday, Nov. 11.

The ceremony honors all veterans who have made sacrifices for friends, family, and for our country.

“There are over 400 student veterans on campus pursuing degrees; Most return to Mizzou because of award winning veterans center, and because of the hard work and dedication of faculty and staff that ensures that these veterans are accepted and recognized for their sacrifices,”  said Marty Walker,  the MC of the event.

The unveiling of the Blue Star memorial, a granite stone that came from Memorial Union, and a roll call of all Missourians who have sacrificed everything for our country also took place during the ceremony.

This annual Wreath Laying Ceremony was particularly special this year, since it marked the one hundredth anniversary of the beginning of World War One.

During the course of World War one, 117 MU men sacrificed their lives in order to protect the safety of our country.

The ceremony not only dedicated all MU men who have died for our country, but is also dedicated to all men and women who have already sacrificed everything for our country, and to all men and women who will put the country’s protection and safety above their own in the future.
