Waters and Bradley Lead Tigers to Tenth Victory

Sunday, Jan. 22-

The No. 5 Missouri wrestling team traveled to Cedar Falls, Iowa to take on No. 21 Northern Iowa. Mizzou rode on the backs of its undefeated competitors junior Alan Waters and redshirt senior Dom Bradley, who carried them to a 27-9 victory over the Panthers.

Bradley, who is ranked No. 1 in the nation’s heavyweight division, took down his Northern Iowa opponent Blayne Beale by a 4-1 decision earning him his 26th win of the season.

The bout between Bradley and Beale was scoreless through the first period, but in the second, Bradley got it going with an escape followed by a takedown to earn him three points with 43 seconds remaining in the period. Beale was rewarded with his only point in the match in the third period with an escape out of a Bradley hold that lasted 57 seconds. Bradley is now eight wins shy of 100 career victories as an MU athlete.

Waters, who now holds an individual record of 18-0 and a dual record of 8-0, beat opponent Ryan Jauch by a 5-2 decision in the 125-pound weight class. Ranked No. 2 in the nation, Waters was taken down early in the first period by Jauch. These would Jauch’s only two points in the match as Waters got right back up, performed an escape move and a take down of his own to earn three quick points and grab the victory.

Waters’ and Bradley‘s teammates joined the fun as the Tigers won eight of their 10 matches against the Panthers. Other big victories came from senior captain Nathan McCormick over Levi Wolfensperger 11-1, and senior Brent Haynes who brought home his 105th career win over Northern Iowa’s Blaize Cabel with a 9-0 decision.

With this win, the Tigers improve to a 10-1 record. They’ll face previous Big 12 rival No. 2 Oklahoma State coming up on Feb. 1.
