College football is finally back, though new precautions and rules still hold steady due to the COVID-19 pandemic. But, teams are out competing, traveling, and it’s looking like this season might be able to run to completion.

First up on the day, the unranked Wake Forest against the number one team this year, the Clemson Tigers. Led by Trevor Lawerence, the Tigers came out strong in the first quarter and led by 14 points. Additionally, they put up a total of 27 points for the first half. A solid start to the season, Clemson wins 37-13. Top performers in the game were Lawerence, who threw for 351 yards and had one touchdown. A fellow Tiger, Travis Etienne, had 102 rushing yards with a total of 17 carries.

Missouri State and University of Texas El Paso were both completely blown out by Oklahoma and Texas, respectively. Though both teams put up good fights, Oklahoma took their first win of the season with a 48-0 win over Missouri State and Texas over UTEP 59-3. Notable players were quarterback Spencer Rattler of Oklahoma and wide receiver Joshua Moore of Texas.

The Duke, Notre Dame game was a highlight this weekend. Both notoriously strong teams, Duke struck first with a field goal in the first quarter, up 3-0. However, as the game progressed, the Fighting Irish forged ahead and beat the Blue Devils 27-13. Kyren Williams of Notre Dame had a stellar performance. 19 carries for 112 yards and two receptions for 93 yards. He scored twice and led Notre Dame to victory.

It was a solid weekend of football for these hard working teams.
