What’s Going on with Amanda Bynes?

Friday, April 12-

What do the celebrities Lindsay Lohan, Justin Bieber and Britney Spears have in common? Yes, they’re all blonde-or was blonde once-but also have had notable mental breakdowns in public. Former actress Amanda Bynes is now a part of this infamous group.

The former “The Amanda Show “actress who is also known for the films “She’s The Man,” “Sydney White” and most recently, “Easy A,” has now been in the headlines for erratic behavior that began more than two years ago.

It started with Bynes unceremoniously announcing her retirement via Twitter on June 19, 2010. She tweeted, “Being an actress isn’t as fun as it may seem…If I don’t love something anymore I stop doing it…I don’t love acting anymore so I’ve stopped doing it.”

Many of Bynes’ fans were surprised at her abrupt declaration. Bynes has not acted on television or film since 2009s “Easy A.” She is now known more for her antics and legal trouble than her acting.

More issues have followed Bynes, especially last year. On March 7, 2012 Bynes was stopped by police for talking on her cell phone. This was followed by her being charged for driving under the influence on April 6, 2012. On September 27, she pled not guilty to a hit and run she allegedly committed on September 9. She reached a settlement with the alleged victims on December 14, which resulted in the charges being dropped.

Recently, Bynes instagramed a photo with a wavy blonde weave and cheek piercings, a look that was a far cry from the nice, all-American image she projected many years ago.

What is going on with Bynes, exactly? One theory that could be made are the ever present pressure of being a celebrity in Hollywood. Bynes also tweeted recently that she had an eating disorder.

Personally, I think it’s a cry for help and a desperate plea for relevance in an industry that labels careers over before you hit the age of 30. It’s sad that someone who seemed like she had it all together is going through the issues that currently plague her. In order for her to improve and get better, Bynes is going to have to have a deep, honest talk with herself to get the help she needs.
