Famous television producer, music talent scout, and entrepreneur, Simon Cowell, made an exciting announcement recently. The former “American Idol” judge recently tweeted that he will be replacing Howard Stern on “America’s Got Talent.” In his tweet posted on Oct. 22, 2015, Cowell wrote, “The good news is America’s Got Talent is back next year and the even better news is so am I!” This tweet confirmed the rumors in the leaked Sony emails from last year that Cowell was competing for the position. In the emails, Cowell said that he would be able to bring the show back to Los Angeles, which would save the show money.

Fans of “America’s Got Talent” should be excited for the latest addition to the judging panel next season. Simon Cowell could easily be crowned the king of sass if you take a look at his judging portfolio. Beyond his bluntness and hilarious reactions, Cowell really does have an eye for talent. Let’s take a look at the top three reasons why you should love Simon Cowell.

  1. One Direction

If you or your sister is a One Direction fan, you can thank the one and only Simon Cowell. Each member of One Direction (Harry, Louis, Liam, Niall and, formerly, Zayn) all auditioned individually for their shot at stardom. The judges on “The X Factor UK,” which included Cowell at the time, did not think the boys had enough potential on their own, so they gave the boys a chance to continue on the show if they performed as group. Cowell was the leader of the “Groups” section on “The X Factor” and encouraged the boys to move forward together. Even though One Direction did not end up winning their season of “The X Factor,” Cowell continued to support the group by signing them to his record label, Syco.

  1. His hilarious criticisms

Throughout his time on various different TV shows such as “American Idol,” “The X Factor,” and “Britain’s Got Talent,” Cowell was definitely labeled as a tough critic. A contestant could be assured that if they got Cowell on their side, they would almost always stay on the show until the end. But for the many that did not receive his praise, they would probably hear something very brutal. Here are a few examples of commentary that Cowell has said on past shows: “Last year I described someone as being the worst singer in America. I think you’re possibly the worst singer in the world,” “You have the personality of a handle,” and “If your lifeguard duties were as good as your singing, a lot of people would be drowning.”

  1. The even more hilarious memes that have come from his facial expressions throughout the years

Beyond just the phrases and comparisons that Cowell uses, his facial expressions also contribute to why the audience loves him as a judge. In fact, many viewers have taken screenshots of his facial expressions and have used them as reaction photos or internet “memes.” Here are a few examples of Cowell’s influence across the internet.

After reading this, hopefully you will appreciate Simon Cowell’s commentary and facial expressions just a little bit more when you tune into “America’s Got Talent” next summer. Auditions for the show will occur from November 2015 to February 2016 in twelve cities throughout the country.
