Women 13th, Men 3rd at XC SEC Championships

Friday, Oct. 26-

The Missouri Tigers’ men’s and women’s cross country teams were pitted up against the rest of the Southeastern Conference in their first appearance in the SEC Championships on Friday. The Tigers traveled to Nashville, Tenn., and with all eyes watching, they performed at a pretty high level.

While the Mizzou women’s cross country team placed 13th as a team, the men’s team found bountiful amounts of success Friday morning. The men’s team finished in 3rd place, which all things considered, was an extremely impressive performance.

Arkansas won, giving them their third consecutive men’s cross country championship. Georgia would finish second, which assured them their second straight top-three placing.

Junior Hayden Legg, who finished eighth overall in the event, was the fastest running Tiger of the day. He finished the 8-kilometer race with a time of 24:08.24. He was followed by senior Max Storms, and sophomore Bryant Blahnik finished 11th, giving the Tigers three runners in the Top 15.

While they can reflect on the good after this performance, the Tigers need to recuperate and focus their attention on the Midwest Regional Championships. The event is on November 9 in Springfield, Mo.

The Tigers have never won a Cross Country national championship and if they can get a good performance at the Regionals, then perhaps a quest for a title in Louisville, Ky., is in the cards.
