The Missouri Tigers women’s basketball team defeated the LSU Lady Tigers at Mizzou Arena in a key conference matchup Thursday.

Coming into the game, Mizzou was only 3-4 in SEC play before reaching the .500 mark with this win.

Missouri got off to a hot start going up 13-2 early on. Freshman Lindsey Cunningham lead the way with 9 points. By the end of the first quarter, Mizzou shot 53 percent from the field and held a comfortable 22-10 lead.

The second quarter started in similar fashion as Mizzou scored the first five points before LSU scored six of its own. LSU did not score for the remaining three minutes of the quarter, and Mizzou remained on top 33-16 at the half.

In the third quarter, LSU went on a 13-0 run to get right back in the game. Alexis Hyder led the way for the visiting Tigers in that stretch, chipping in seven of those points. LSU cut the deficit to two points, trailing Mizzou 37-35 after three quarters.

Morgan Stock and Alexis Hyder exchanged buckets throughout the fourth. There wasn’t much scoring apart from them, as Stock had three 3-pointers, and Hyder had six points of her own, but her effort was not enough to stop Mizzou. Missouri went on to win 52-46, despite the comeback scare from LSU.

Hyder led all scorers with 23 points, and Lindsey Cunningham led Missouri with 16 points and 6 rebounds.

Missouri’s next game is on the road against a struggling Ole Miss team this Sunday in Oxford, Mississippi. Tip off is scheduled for 4:00 p.m.
