Thursday, February 25—

Facing Kentucky on the road is a challenge in itself and Mizzou did itself no favors Thursday night racking up 17 turnovers. The Tigers found that out the hard way, falling to the Wildcats 69-59 in front of 6500 fans at Memorial Coliseum.

Sophie Cunningham continued her sensational freshman season with 29 points, three rebounds, two assists and two steals for the Lady Tigers. The freshman product of Rock Bridge High School here in Columbia was ranked 20th in her class nationwide coming out of high school, and she has done just that.

Cunningham netted her eighth game scoring at least 20 points this season, including a 42-point performance against Wake Forest in November, only her fourth collegiate game ever.

Jordan Frericks added 12 points for Mizzou, but it was Kentucky’s 20 points off turnovers and 32 points in the paint that sealed the coffin on the Tigers.

The Wildcats jumped out to a fast start and lead by 13 at halftime. Their bench kept the ship afloat outscoring their Missouri counterparts 14-8. Senior Janee Thompson led the way with an impressive 24 points to lead Kentucky to the victory.

Up next the Tigers have one final home game against Vanderbilt. The Tiger seniors will play in Mizzou Arena Sunday at 1:00 p.m. for the final time.  Following that game, the SEC tournament will begin Thursday, March 3 in Jacksonville, Florida, with Mizzou currently in the middle of the pack in a star-studded SEC.
